Every document and identity file — Aadhaar scans, income proofs, signed leases, KYC photos — is encrypted with AES-256 before it is written to storage. The storage layer itself never holds readable files. A breach of the storage medium returns unreadable ciphertext, not documents.

How Tenanting
Came to Exist.

The Observation
Every property owner we knew had the same problem
Across conversations with flat owners in Hyderabad — IT professionals who owned a flat or two, retired families managing inherited property, NRI investors — the complaints were identical. Tenant verification was a photostat formality. Leases were notary-typed on stamp paper. Rent was collected via UPI with no receipt. The informal system had been normalised to the point where its risks were invisible.
The Research
The market had tools. None of them solved the core problem.
Existing platforms addressed listing and discovery — finding a tenant, not managing them. Post-listing, every property owner was back to WhatsApp, photocopies, and manual follow-ups. No platform had built an end-to-end structured tenancy lifecycle system for the Indian market, with KYC, e-signed leases, automated reminders, and document management in one place.

Tenanting was built ground-up with a data model and workflow designed entirely around Indian rental law — MTA 2021, RERA, DPDP Act 2023, 11-month lease conventions, GST on rent, state-specific stamp duty, and WhatsApp-first communication. Every design decision reflects the actual constraints and expectations of the Indian flat owners, not a generic Western SaaS company retrofitted for the market.

Tenanting is not a Western proptech product with Indian branding. The schema, the compliance model, the notification logic, the lease templates, the KYC workflow — every piece is designed for the Indian rental market's specific laws, conventions, and communication preferences. 11-month leases. GST on rent. MTA deposit caps. DPDP consent. WhatsApp over email. These are not special cases — they are the baseline.

Consent is architecture, not a checkbox

Every piece of personal data Tenanting collects — Aadhaar numbers, selfie photos, income documents, employment records — is collected under explicit, category-level, revocable consent. Purpose limitation is enforced in the data model, not just the privacy policy. Deletion is a first-class operation. This is not a legal obligation we comply with grudgingly — it is the design principle the platform is built on.

In the Indian rental market, the party who wins any dispute is invariably the one with the better documentation. Tenanting's core function is to make comprehensive documentation the automatic outcome of every normal tenancy action — not a separate effort, not an afterthought, not something you do when trouble is already visible. Every consent, every signature, every payment, every maintenance ticket, every communication is timestamped and stored.

Simplicity for the user, not the builder

The KYC process is complex — Aadhaar linking, liveness verification, address validation, employment check, police verification, report generation. The tenant's experience is a link they click and a series of guided steps. The complexity is hidden behind the interface, not offloaded onto the user. This is harder to build. It is the only acceptable outcome.

Every persona is a first-class citizen

Tenanting serves owners, NRI owners, self-residing homeowners, tenants, vendors, RWAs, and facility managers. Each has a distinct workflow, distinct fears, distinct legal rights, and distinct information needs. We do not build for the "average user" — we build for each persona's actual situation. The self-residing homeowner who does not rent out deserves the same quality of tooling as a flat owners with twenty units.

Security is not a feature

AES-256 encryption for all documents and identity data at rest. TLS 1.2+ for every byte in transit. Encryption keys managed independently from stored data — so a breach of storage returns unreadable bytes. Role-based access controls scoped per persona. Session integrity enforcement. Infrastructure firewalling and monitoring. Tamper-evident audit logging for every sensitive action. These are not "security features" we added to a product — they are the infrastructure the product is built on. The moment security becomes optional, we have failed the people who trust us with their Aadhaar data.
